FASCIAL MANIUPLATION! – PROF.  ANTONIO STECCO

LEVEL 1 – HYBRID

IN-PERSON COURSE

This 6 day program is divided into 2 blocks of three days.

A 3-day online (at your own time) and 3-day hands-on seminar to become a better clinician!

Fascial Manipulation

Fascial Manipulation is a manual therapy that has been developed by Luigi Stecco, an Italian physiotherapist. Focusing on fascia, it considers the myofascial system as a three-dimensional continuum.

This method presents a complete biomechanical model that assists in deciphering the role of fascia in musculoskeletal disorders.

In recent years, Prof. Carla Srecco MD and Dr. Antonio Stecco MD have carried out extensive research into the anatomy and histology of the fascia via dissection of unembalmed cadavers in Italy and France. These dissections have provided new histological and anatomical data including the existence of myotendinous expansions between segments, the multi-layer structure of deep fascia and the abundant innervation of the tissue by mechanoreceptors and free nerve endings.

The mainstay of the manual method developed by L. Stecco lies in the identification of specific, localised areas of the fascia in connection with specific limited movements. Once a limited or painful movement is identified, then a specific point on the fascia is implicated and, through the appropriate manipulation of this precise part of fascia, movement can be restored.

Course Description:

The Fascial Manipulation® system by Stecco takes a unique approach, looking at the body as a whole, not just “where it hurts” or where the problems appear to be. Utilizing a systematic approach to assessment and treatment of the tissue, the course covers deep tissue manipulation and focus areas of deep fascia. Students learn manual palpation of very specific regions of the body in order to determine the location of fascial alterations which may be involved with your patient’s problem. The Fascial Manipulation® Level 1 (FM-1) course consists of two parts, called FM-1a and FM-1b. FM-1a needs to be fully completed, and a test needs to be taken and passed prior to taking FM-1b in person. This is to assure a good understanding of the underlying biomechanical and physiological rationale and mastery of the techniques presented.

What are the benefits of learning the Fascial Manipulation® system by Stecco?

  • The uniqueness of Fascial Manipulation® is looking at the body as a whole, not just “where it hurts” or where the problems appear to be.
  • Fascial alterations away from the affected painful area are the actual cause of the problem. In most cases, we are able to treat acutely painful conditions and not even touch the area that hurts.
  • In other words, the fascial structures in other areas may be causing abnormal (or unbalanced) pull or stress on the muscles, joints or nerves that cause you to feel pain, limited movement or even altered sensations in a different part of your body.
  • Learn manual palpation of very specific regions of the body in order to determine the location of fascial alterations which may be involved with your patient’s problem
  • Learn a systematic approach to assessment and treatment of these issues, consisting of deep tissue manipulation of very specific and focused areas of the deep fascia

This course is currently only offered in a Hybrid format (partially online, partially in person). FM-1a is taken online via the Stecco Education Platform.
FM-1b done in-person at the location you select upon registration.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand current research with the adjustment and how it applies to clinical practice
  • Discover new dynamic ways to palpate joints using joint play and movement analysis
  • Apply dynamic palpation to various adjustments
  • Master key adjustments

Who should attend?

Fascial Manipulation courses are intended for medical doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. Other registered health practitioners with at least two years of experience and a good working knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology and notions of postural analysis maybe accepted after submission of their qualifications.

  • Athletic Trainers
  • Chiropractors
  • Doctors of osteopathic medicine
  • Massage therapists
  • Medical doctors

Important information on Hybrid Fascial Manipulation Level 1 Course:

The Fascial Manipulation® Level 1 (FM-1) course consists of two three-day courses, called FM-1a and FM-1b. In this new hybrid delivery, level 1a will be taken online and MUST be completed at least one week prior to attending level 1b in person.  You MUST watch all required lectures and pass each test from the online portion of class.  You then need to print your certificate stating you passed these exams and BRING IT WITH YOU TO LEVEL 1b.  You will not be admitted to level 1b without your printed certificate.  This is to assure a good understanding of the underlying biomechanical rationale and mastery of the techniques presented in level 1b.

  • When you register for FM-1b you will need to enroll in the Hybrid FM-1a course on the Stecco Education Platform.
  • Your hybrid course fee includes the cost for both parts. You do not need to pay a separate FM-1a course fee.

Who can benefit from learning the Fascial Manipulation® system:

  • Athletic Trainers
  • Chiropractors
  • Doctors of osteopathic medicine
  • Massage therapists
  • Medical doctors
  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Other licensed medical practitioners with manual therapy in their practice act

Course Format:

  • Introduction to fascial anatomy
  • Introduction to the biomechanical model employed by the Fascial Manipulation® method
  • Define the myofascial units that form the myofascial sequences of the upper limbs, trunk, and the lower limbs in the sagittal and frontal planes.
  • Learn about the Assessment Chart used in Fascial Manipulation® method.

FM-1b – Fascial Manipulation Level 1 Part B:

Fascial Manipulation Level 1 Part B consist of;

  • In-depth study of the physiology of the fascial system
  • Assessment and treatment of the myofascial units for the upper limbs, trunk, and the lower limbs in the horizontal plane.
